Steam power in prints

From 19 August 2013-2 February 2014, the DB Museum displayed prints of railway-themed images from the 19th century.

The glut of images we see on a day-to-day basis is something we take for granted in the modern world. Where photography, film and internet are now the dominant visual media, this role was once played by images in books and newspapers.

We decided to mount a special exhibition dedicated to images of the railway from the 19th century, most of them in the form of wood or steel engravings. We placed these images side by side with carefully chosen photos of the same motifs – old meets new, so to speak. The engravings came from a private collection donated to the DB Museum.
